In March of 2007, Legio IX hispana sent an expeditionary force to the wilds of Lafe, Arkansas - to take part in a Roman immersion weekend called Lafe 43AD The event is run by the II Augusta, and includes a nearly-completed Roman fort. Lafe 43AD Click on thumbnails for larger image A view of the front of the fort. Very impressive!. A view from inside the gate, as some of the local garrison prepare to march out. A view from the left tower. The garrison must remain ever-vigilent, as the local tribe is quite uncivilized.. Speaking of being ever-vigilent... The barracks. ... and a peek inside the barracks. Some of our papilliones, or tents, as well as our signum and stack of pilae. If you look in the background, you can see how large the fort really is. "Centurio! I think we have company!". "... and it doesn't look like a social call!". The mark of a professional - cool, calm and relaxed before the impending battle. Optio Marius sees his chance, and... ... takes the shot. The garrison slowly relaxes after the skirmish. Legio IX Miles (and friend). From left to right: C . Antonius Retiarius (Decanus - Orange County chapter), C. Noricus (Decanus - Texas chapter), G. Marinus Micarius, our friend G. Rufus Ephibatus (of Legio II Augusta - the hosting unit), Rufus Sanguinarius, G. Valerius Hibernicus (Centurio), Marcus Iberius, and G. Marius Traianus (Optio et decanus - Northern San Diego chapter)
